Fifty eyes watching you, each move you make they see,
Sitting there infront of them, you are what they long to be.
How should you listen, how to be alert, they answer with an innocence pure,
For they want to give all they have to offer, yet how to slightly unsure.
A treat for me to be among these children, gentle, sensitive and eager to learn,
In their eyes I see the longing, with willingness ready to burn.
They scream, they laugh, they gallop, they hop and then silence enters their being,
And then they observe, they take in whats around by hearing, touching and seeing.
What a difference there is I think to myself, the same child, just a different guide,
Each child a flower ready to bloom in its fragrance, all he needs is someone in whom to confide.
I am amazed by the potential one holds as a teacher in the life of children. And its beautiful to observe the difference I see in city public school raised children versus those raised in a home school, in a open environment such as this. Children here are given every means of expressing themselves - whether it be anger, or jealousy or simple tantrum throwing they are not subdued but rather allowed to express their opinion and then objectively talked to. The way a child reacts to openness from the teacher to his responses is genuinely a treat to watch. Everyone is learning here, there is no fear to be found anywhere around.....no mediocricity, no fakeness....things are just the way they are. Alot of teachers here simply have the passion....they may not be formal teachers....but the love with which they interact with the children is all that matters. There is no concept of slow child here, no intellectual debates on whether to use the whole language approach or the phonetic approach to teaching...there is only the child to be considered...only his needs, his way of learning to be understood and adapted accordingly. Since children here are dealt with softness, the children that are raised are soft and sensitive....very intelligent, but the intelligence comes with a gentleness to their being. They are not out to compete and kill, but rather to share their knowledge and help. It's beautiful.....
